My Synopsis

Kim Min Kyu (Yoo Seung Ho) has a rare psychosomatic condition that causes him to be allergic to the human touch. Living in fear and isolating himself from close contact with people, since childhood, he is finally given the opportunity through a research company to own a life-like human android. Her name is Aji-3 (Chae Soo Bin). Though a robot, it gives Min Kyu a chance to no longer be alone. However, problems arise with Aji-3 before the research team can deliver her. Keeping it quiet, they secretly substitute the robot with the real girl she is modeled after. As Jo Ji Ah develops feelings for Min Kyu she is faced with the reality that should Min Kyu ever know the truth, it could literally kill him. Can she protect the man she loves and keep her identity a secret?

My Review: 8.5/10

I gave this a little lower rating than I think most people would. I will explain later. This is a very popular drama with a very popular lead actor. The drama circles around a man who had a significant trauma in his childhood that led to his development of a psychologically triggered allergic reaction to the human touch. He has basically lived his entire life distant from any close interaction with people and because of such has developed some strange quirks based pretty much off of his starvation of human love and affection. When he is finally offered a chance to have a friend he does not have to fear, even if it is not really human, he jumps at the opportunity. Struggling with her realness and his desire for love he finds himself in a battle with his feelings. Can he let her go before his feelings for her get too deep?

Yoo Seung Ho is a great actor. I don't have any doubts there. He pulled off the quirky Min Kyu to perfection, and did an amazing job acting out the parts where is illness puts him in distress. He is a great actor. My biggest issue with this drama comes from the written character of Min Kyu. I think this is more of a personal preference, and definitely does not have anything to do with the actor and his abilities. I felt that the character of Min Kyu, despite having had to live a very independent life, was extremely dependent on those around him. The character, in my opinion, rarely showed strength or resilience. He was so affected by those around him that I felt a good portion of the drama was spent tip-toeing around his fragility. I kept hoping to really see the strong side of him emerge. There was some strength in the end, don't get me wrong. But... overall I would have preferred the writer have given him some moments for his inner strength to shine, even early on.

Chae Soo Bin made a very cute Aji-3. She did an awesome job in her role as the girl pretending to be a robot. I loved her character and how even in her role she found a way to put in her own personality with the use of "friend mode". However, this is probably the mode that made it the most difficult for the couple to not develop feelings. A plus for us, though! :D She was entertainingly funny and I enjoyed watching her in this role. I look forward to seeing her in other works as well.

Despite my opinion of the written character of Min Kyu, I really did enjoy this drama and would definitely recommend it. It has great ratings and is on so many people's favorite drama list. If you are looking for a romantic comedy with some serious drama mixed in... this is for you!
